NOT YET OVER

God Cares Rights Foundation with funding from Egmont Trust England is implementing a 1 year vulnerable and street connected children project in the city of Mzuzu. The project is aimed at improving access and uptake of quality health and education.

Martha is one of the girls that are benefiting from the project. She is a second born daughter of her family who lost her dad when she was 2 years old. Due to poverty her mother abandoned her at the age of 11 while in grade 7. She had no choice but to drop out of school. Martha was then left with her uncle where the environment was not conducive for a girl child. The family that took her in survives on the business of selling dough nuts and is a family of 7 members. As a girl child who lost her father and abandoned by her mother; Martha was facing a number of challenges including lacking decent clothes, not having adequate food, lacking school fees and school fees as as learning materials. this subjected her to psychological trauma which with time affected her performance in class. Propelled by her vision of becoming a medical doctor, Martha now 15 years old, worked hard and made it to Chibavi Community Day Secondary School. She is now in grade 9. Upon getting in touch with her, GCRF with help from Egmont supports Martha with School fees and learning materials. The organization gave her a pig as well which will help to support her and the family in the long run.

Below in the picture is Martha (in pink) together with her guardians receiving a pig from GCRF through the field officer (in white).

"Am so happy to have been considered as one of the beneficiaries of the project. With the support am receiving, i will work hard in class and continue working hard. i could be chased out of class during lessons due to failure in paying my school fees. My heart was not at peace which affected my concentration in class. This aid has brought peace into my life and family. am so thankful to the people who have come together to support me. Thank you". Martha was quoted.
